The Beaver and the Hare

Image
For this project we had to write a fable. A fable is a short story that uses animals as characters with the intent of teaching the reader a lesson. The reason why anthropomorphism or personified animals are used is to establish traits of the character without stating it in the story. In developing my fable, I first picked the moral of the story. I chose the beaver as one of the characters because of the patient and hard working traits and I choose a hare because of their trait of being impatient. Next I thought up my conflict, setting, mood and tone of the story. After I made the first draft, I had someone review it I used the feed back in this final draft. The Beaver and the Hare One foggy Monday morning a determined Beaver crawls out from his den and starts to collect wood for his new home. The friendly, outgoing Hare walks up to the Beaver and asks, “What are you doing?” The Beaver replied uninterested “Making the dam.” The Hare keeps trying to get the Beaver’s attention sa...

The past remains through it all

Image
For this project I had to create an origin story. An origin story is the explanation of how places, objects, or ideas, became to be. origin stories have a lot of power in many cultures and all religions usually being the best known, most influential, or most referenced stories. The best known origin stories are the ones that tell how the world was created or other universal effects. Origin stories and stories in general are used to explain the unknown such as the creation of the world, the creation of life & humans. To help with relating the usually massive and other worldly events, similes and metaphors are used in the stories. Similes and metaphors are used as a story telling device to help with u nderstanding by stating two objects are similar or the same. Sometimes objects in stories are meant to be completely unique or mundane so sensory language is used to define the unique traits. The process for writing this assignment was to first pick something to explain I deci...

Fennecus Zerda

For the first unit of our population class we spent our time learning how to do Set notation. set notation is the mathimaticly correct way to write out collections of items all the way from different galaxys or in this case traits of an organism. every set is defined by a letter and for this foxes traits i used the letter F.  For this project, I decided to study a Fennec Fox ( Lupus zerda ). A Fennec Fox is a very small species of fox that lives in the African dessert. Their most recognizable trait is the large ears. Standing at a height of 8 inches the fox must catch small or bird eggs to feed their carnivorous diet. Similar to wolves they work together in packs. The small size and only weapon being their small jaw, they are at the bottom of the food chain. Thus to keep the numbers high they are borne in groups of 2-5 kits per litter. As for the taxonomy of the organism, their kingdom is Animalia because it is hetrotrop and multi-cellular. The phylum is Chordata becaus...

The Burger Battle

for this unit named birth in our food for thought class we spent our time learning about the industrialization of food and how it affects the worlds diets and cultures. I learned about Michael Pollan's philosophy and observations of how foods and diets change because of the industrial revolutions. so for this project my class had to compare a food made at home to one made at a restaurant and describe both dishes with the most detail and give a conclusion of which one better. for this project i decided to compare a burger from McDonalds to one grilled at home. the reason why I chose to do MacDonald for the project is because it seems to be the stereotype for fast food chain with paying next to nothing to employees giving lackluster unhealthy products in next to no time after you order them, not to mention the seemingly endless amount of mistakes and contravenes. for the burger made at home it's very simple when it comes to prep and cooking. first we took all the Kir...

Our Noble Suppliers

for this project we had to create a speech speaking about a topic related to the UN's second sustainable development goal which is to solve world hunger in all forms. for the project i chose to talk about how farmers in third world countries are disadvantaged Today, in this day and age, we expect the farmers in all walks of life to be treated just. In other countries farmers are providing the best food they can make to a small area. This is most prevalent in third world countries where farmers can’t expand due to large corporate entities buying land. Farmers in third world countries are cheated out of sustainable living. This project is about SDG 1: no poverty. This Essay Relates to target 5 "By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters." At points in this essay I point out how some farmers g...

Learning How to Garden

Image
For this project we are supposed to plan a garden. But how do you plan a garden? You plan a garden by figuring out how much soil you are going to need. So i decided to plan for an old garden bed. For the materials i have are an extra bag of soil the any plants i can find and the other containers that i’m going to plant in is a vase and a cardboard box i found. As for the quality of soil in the ground it’s a small plot with weeds growing in it but i am going to cover it with a gardening mix to use. For this project i'm planning on growing peppers, cilantro, onions, beans, cucumber, garlic, milkweed, lettuce because i hear probably most of them except for the no weeding. As for the containers the vase is going to be aquaponic, for the cardboard box i am going to fill it half way with soil or 180 cu in and in the garden i am going to use 15 cu ft of soil.(for diagrams see below) and for the soil quality the N/P/K of ratio between the nitrogen phosphor and potassium that are necessar...
